Clean up -For the clean up portion of the exam i organized the clay wire tools, as well i completely cleaned the clay pottery wheel.
1. Regardless of whether a project was successful or not, describe the one where you learned, grew, or developed the most from? Please explain. (Clay animal)
One of my most successful projects was my clay animal project. I learned and grew a lot from developing this project. I previously had never worked with this material of gray clay. I grew with knowledge of this material as well as how to sculpt from clay to make it look like a realistic animal form. I also learned how to use clay tools and apply them to understand another form of art making. Overall this project helped me grow as an artist.
2. Choose a place or artwork where the subject matter reflects you as an artist. One that you have a personal connection to. Please explain. (I stand for)
The I stand for project was a really awesome project. I had never seen that idea as an art form and it was cool to use my own feelings and beliefs to change and sculpt the way my art turned out. This project directly relates to me as an artist because it clearly defines something of what i stand for, and that is education for girls. I really enjoyed this project because it gave me a modern way to express my art through also showing something i believe strongly in.
3.What is a technique you used in your artwork that worked well? Explain what technique it was and why it was successful.(fish)
The technique that i used in this project was patience. This was a particularly difficult project because of the sheer amount of detail that went into it. I had to maintain strict patience to draw every detail of the fish, specifically the scales. This technique was extremely successful and allowed me to translate it into other projects through the rest of the semester. By keeping strong patience i was able to have a successful art piece with lots of detail and a realistic final picture.
4.What did you find most difficult about this class? This could be anything from gathering materials, to generating projects ideas, to applying a particular technique. What could be done to resolve this issue in the future? (Nature )
One of the most difficult things i found about the class was coming up with interesting ideas that i would keep interest in. one problem related to this was also i would often come up with ideas but they would be to ambitious to accomplish at my level of artistic ability. This would intern often cause me to backtrack my idea process to a more concise clear vision. This is when the class got too difficult because every project needed anew and specific idea. I could resolve this issue by clearly planning before i start a project, I found this specifically a problem in the nature project.
5.Medium: which medium did you most enjoy working with and why? Which medium did you not use but wish you had explored? Include photo.
The medium that i found most enjoyable to work with was the charcoal. The charcoal hammer was actually the first piece i had done in Art 1 so i had a complete clean slate to work with. I really liked this medium because it is very forgiving and it also turned out really cool as a final project. One medium that i did not use but wished i had used was oil pastels. I had done a short entry in my sketch book with pastels but i was unable to do a final large piece with the pastels. If i could choose i would go back and explore the characteristics and the different way to use pastels.
