Mixed Media
I develop my art making skills
Previously I had only done mixed media once with a less regulated schedule of layer adding. With this piece i added a new layer everyday and focused on how the lines and color affected the piece. I also learned proper techniques when using gel medium such as amount added and the use of gel medium on transparent pieces of paper. I also developed my art making skills because i don't typically do abstract art, or enjoy abstract art. But by completing this project i learned how to address bold colors and the use of incorporating magazine clippings, buttons, glitter, sequence, ribbon, and newspaper.By becoming more aware of this type of art i have been able to appreciate this type of art in the world. So not only have i developed my physical art making skills but i have added a new well rounded idea of appreciation for abstract nontraditional art.
I solve problems
While completing this piece i was very skeptical of the colors and picture i chose to depict. In the first stages and layers of the piece i used bright pinks, turquoises, silver glitter, and zebra print. I didn't enjoy the way my piece was going especially with the color choices and direction. So i decided to solve the problem by layering different tones with transparent whites as well as dark navys and purples to contrast the bright colors from the first layer. By solving this problem i began to enjoy the project much more and my own feelings toward it started to turn more and more positive with the adding of additional layers. An unexpected turn that my piece took was when i applied "glitter glue" it game out in clumps. So to solve this problem i used a paintbrush to spread the glue out thinner, by doing this it became my favorite element in the piece as a whole.
we collaborate
Throughout this piece i collaborated with many different people. I manly collaborated with my teacher Mrs.Rossi, and the people at my table. One thing that my table group agreed with me on was the direction that i chose when i started with the pinks and zebra prints. We all agreed that the color wasn't pleasing to the eye and wasn't what i was going for in the beginning. I also collaborated with Mrs.Rossi around the final stages of the piece she elaborated on the use of layers and lines and not looking at the piece as a whole but as small windows or sections. By adding this critique i was more inspired to add small details and add more layers. Overall this piece was a good example of collaboration with my peers and teachers to create a more well rounded piece. Through doing mixed media i have learned that i really loved seeing the whole piece come together at the end, i might not have liked it at the beginning but i really enjoy it now.
