Final Exam Art 2
Above is the before blog of a previous assignment that i feel i didn't post as well as some of my others.
Art Critique My most favorite piece I have completed in Art 2 was the clay project.I used grey clay and acrylic paints to complete this project. This project was executed with sharp lines and in depth coloring to really grasp the likeness of a blue crab. While sculpting this piece i really payed attention to the application and texture of the clay. I layered clay to add a ridge in the middle of the crab's body to express the shape and curvature of the crabs shell naturally. As Well when i was adding texture to the top of the crabs shell i used a sponge to indent the shell in a way that imitates sand. lastly during the sculpting process i scratched and scored the inner side of the claw to look more realistic. After the first firing of the piece i started to add light tones to the crabs in small strokes. I also applied a technique similar to stippling but with using different shades of yellows, Browns, and reds. I also colored the inside mouth parts with different shades, of pink and yellow. finally to add more depth the coloring i painted black on the eyes but once it had dried i added a clear glaze to the eyes to give them a life like shine. This sculpting of two crabs and an old bay can uses bright colors emanating a happy tone. The crabs also are a symbol of summer months and crabbing at the beach. For me executing and just looking at this piece makes me happy because it reminds me of happy warm summer days in Baltimore. The sculpture shows a truth of nostalgia for me and by doing so they have become one of my favorite pieces completed in this class. Overall this piece is a good representation to my skills that i developed in Art 2. From the planning stages all the way to completion of the final product. It is strong in color, texture, theory, and is personal to me. As an artist i aspire to create more works similar to this that i can be proud of. |
2 Questions
1. One of my most successful pieces that i completed in Art two was a mini project of a Fanta can. This art work was done using oil pastels and black paper. Choices i made during this project were what colors to use instead of the actual colors of the can due to the limited colors of the oil pastels. By choosing the light and dark blue to use these colors was a good choice because they had a full range of color and tone as well as blended well with dark purples and whites.
I also chose to make the can a large enough size to accentuate the details of the label as well as to get a full range of tones and colors. The final choice i made was to do the fanta can with broad curved strokes to give the illusion of a rounded can, by doing so i added texture and i fully embraced the techniques to properly draw something with oil pastels. The theme of the project centralizes on the materialistic/cartoonish view of the fanta can. I believe this is my most successful piece because it has a full range of colors, great shading, and a good depiction of a real fanta can, overall i am extremely happy and proud of this piece.
2.Two of my most developed and most successful pieces this semester are, the mixed media piece, and my perspective piece. these pieces show my growth through the semester with application and design. With regards to my mixed media piece i developed an eye for graphic matching of colors and mediums. This piece was completed using many layers of different materials tissue paper, glitter, magazine, straws, clear fabrics, and graphic lettering, etc. I learned how to perfect the technique and application of the different materials onto a board to show true depth in ranges of mediums. the process of doing this piece also allowed me to perfect my intuition because the process of making this piece is purely random yet slightly planned i gained a better intuition as the course of the project continued but i really learned by the end what types and colors looked best. My next piece that showed a lot of growth was my perspective drawing. in Art one i had learned very little on how to complete a perspective drawing and in Art two i enhanced my knowledge of this topic. This piece is made with drawing pencil and line. It uses many techniques learned with drawing and shading. My artistic vision also shown through this piece because i was able to complete my original idea of drawing a building that is very familiar and one that i drive by every day. I showed my creativity by adding small elements such as lighting and additional bushes to the foreground. Overall i feel that i grew as an artist immensely in this class, i learned so many things i never knew about art and now i am much more understanding and passionate when it comes to analyzing or even making art.
