These two art pieces were done to prep for the Georgia O'Keeffe art project. The top piece is done in chalk pastel, by using chalk pastel i have learned how to control contorting as well how to use less to show more: this means to prevent the piece from looking muddy or all a shade of brown you have to lighten up on the chalk and consciously chose your colors you are working with. The second piece is of a soda can, in this piece i chose to do it off of the actual color of the can which is gray instead i chose to do it in a light blue, this allowed the color to pop off the page as well it contrasted with the dark blues and bright oranges in the label of the Fanta. Through using these mediums i have developed a deeper understanding of color and how it relates to value shading and tones.
These are all prep pieces for the final drawing, this includes sketches, pen techniques, and shape shading. We learned these all as techniques and then explored them more individually.
I Develop my art making skills
Through this process of drawing a perspective piece i have learned a lot of new techniques. First i developed the skill and technique to draw in perspective not only 1st point but 2, and 3 point as well. I also learned how to properly use pen and ink shading, with different textures such as hatching, stippling, inventive and line. I also learned how to properly shade with graphite pencils and what the different types of pencils mean ranging from HB-6B. Overall this project helped me develop my perspective, drawing, and shading skills as an artist. In previous years of art i had done a lot with pencil line drawings. In this project i learned how to control my pencil and really use a pencil to its full range of color value. By doing so i was able to advance an old skill into a more useful tool for future art projects. In the future i now know hoe to shade and to properly draw with pencil. I Take Risks The first risk i took in this project was the fact that it was a perspective drawing. I had never truly done a perspective art work before this one so i was cautiously approaching the project. But for it being my first perspective piece i decided to take a risk and to draw a building with no direct vanishing points that was clearly defined in the photo. With help and patience i was able to find the Vanishing point in the far back left corner practically off the page. The second risk i took was to do this piece in pencil when i had never previously properly done anything in pencil. I learned of the use the pencils to there value with shading of shapes and lines. By deciding to do this piece in all pencil it was a risk due to my lack of previous knowledge of how to correctly shade with pencil. We Collaborate While doing this piece i collaborated with the people at my table, as well as the teacher. Being that this piece was my first perspective drawing i was apprehensive to start as well begin new concepts related to the project. With help from my peers around me i was able to adapt and learn new techniques to previous challenges. Manly a major concern of mine was how to find and work with vanishing points and perspective continues lines. By consulting with my peers at my table they helped me to locate and continue these lines all the way through the piece. Specifically a point in the piece that i had helpful direction with was the shading of the bricks. My teacher taught me to shade around each singular brick to show the indentation of the actual bricks in the photo. By taking the feedback and the help i was able to produce a piece that was highly realistic because of the definition within each of the singular bricks. By collaborating with my peers and teachers i was able to develop a solid perspective piece as my first project in the art 2 class. Here is my second perspective in progress photo. Here you can see the lines of the bricks have been darkened. As well the bushes have been started to be shaded. From here i continued shading in the dark shadows of the building as well as adding small details to the ground and background of the piece.
This is an in progress photo of my perspective piece, here I have started to shade the dark of the building. As well I did the first layer of bricks on the columns. I also started the process of drawing in the side walk lines.
